Working Stock Dogs

Welcome to Branstock Farm. Home to Dressage horses and ponies,  Cardigan Welsh Corgis and the Mesa Family.  Sue is making her dream a reality in the breathtaking scenery at the foothills of Northeast Georgia.

Both  Sue and Marc are AHBA herding judges and are available for herding clinics at the facility or yours. They have worked with every breed of herding dogs and some not so obvious ones. They understand that each dog works differently and reacts differently in training and thus they treat each dog according to what is needed at that moment. They adjust to the dog, not forcing the dog to adjust to them.  Both Sue and Marc have advanced and open herding titles in AKC, ASCA, AHBA., with different dogs as well as different breeds of herding dogs.

Sue has a wonderful eye for a horse with and understanding of what is needed when looking at a rider. This makes her unique and exquisitely suited to seek the right horse for a rider. If you are looking for a horse, Sue can find the right one for you. She is well versed in the basics of equitation which is fundamentally the same whether you ride English or Western, dressage or hunters. She is up beat, positive instructor, treating the horse and rider as a team that should work in harmony, not as 2 separate entities working to opposite ends. She understands and explains training so that everyone can understand it, and do it well.
Sue is currently riding 3rd level in dressage, and is about to return to the field of eventing with her Welsh cob Stallion, Brondo. He has told her by the way he enjoys it, that this is what he wants to do. She has, in the past, ridden successfully in eventing and looks forward to allowing Brondo the freedom to do what he wants to do. She has shown and won in Hunters, Jumpers, even Western Pleasure, proving that good horsemanship is just that, good horsemanship.

Sue saw the need for a smaller horse, large pony to be competitive in the sport. Children, smaller adults as well as the older adults were be "OVER HORSED"  and either getting hurt or scared or were unable to ride their mount. The smaller horses were being overlooked in their training by the professionals as well, so she started breeding, breaking and training them with the same goals in mind as the bigger warmbloods. These animals are competitive in the ring, light to the aids and a joy to ride. In her breeding program Sue not only emphasizes movement and athletic ability, but temperament and trainability. She feels that it shouldn't take a professional to ride your horse.

The Mesa's breed, raise and compete with their Cardigan Welsh Corgis'. Sue fell in love with the breed over 25 years ago.  She loved their bright personalities and jolly good nature. She has since been breeding them and though a lot her dogs have gone on to be herding dogs, both competitive as well as working farm dogs, the ones she is most proud of are the ones that are exceptional Therapy Dogs, proving that her goal of maintaining the temperament that she loves, is being preserved.
